Coquitlam Queens Return To Evergreen Cultural Centre
Dragging Out The Summer – An Autumn Delusion. Saturday, September 21, 2019, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Drag artists Jakyllyn Hyde and Flannery Pajamas make a bustling return to Coquitlam’s Evergreen Cultural Centre on September 21 with Dragging Out The Summer – An Autumn Delusion.”

The duo’s brash variety show headlines actress-comedian Yumi Nagashima in a hybrid burst of music, dance, comedy and performance art. While drag fans and returning audiences can expect the spectacle and hilarity they love, the show’s curators Daniel Mason and Stephen Johnson describe it as the perfect introduction to a once-niche art form that has now seized the mainstream.
Drag shows inherently present a compelling social and political statement by highlighting the performative aspects of gender that challenge one’s built-in notions of what gender is. Jakyllyn Hyde and Flannery Pajamas are happy to invite that kind of awareness. But for these performers, together known as the Coquitlam Queens, audience enjoyment comes first.
The queens made their original Tri-Cities debut in March of 2018. Now their bi-annual drag spectacular has grown into an Evergreen mainstay. The pair has cultivated a fan following that very literally includes everyone from ages 8 to 80. All events are singular, one-night-only affairs that can only be experienced live.
Dragging Out The Summer also features performers Anida Tythole, Justice Du Jour and Jo King (the Valley Clique), along with Candy Boxx and special guests Kittin Kaboodle and Junk Male.
While audience costumes aren’t a requirement, Mason reminds that nobody will be out of place in a wig, onesie, boa or bunny tail. He only adds, “please wear something you can sit in because the show will be on the stage — this time.”
