What is A Kid Like Jake About?
A Kid Like Jake is a thought-provoking play that speaks to our shared values of inclusivity, understanding and diversity. Specifically, A Kid Like Jake addresses a parent-child relationship whose complexities are magnified when Alex and Greg’s 4-year-old son Jake starts showing signs of being gender-creative. Jake likes dresses, and dolls, and Cinderella. And even though we never meet Jake on stage, most of the conversations in the play describe Jake, address how he is perceived, and how that affects the people who interact with him, in particular his parents. A Kid Like Jake forces its characters and audience to investigate the minutiae of their interior lives, to confront their deepest, darkest fears, and to come to a place of reconciliation as they experience Jake through the way that he is seen, described, and analyzed by the characters in the play. A Kid Like Jake by Daniel Pearle set to open in April 2020 at the PAL Studio Theatre in Coal Harbour.
